Event data is crucial to understanding the causation of an accident. Historically, heavy vehicle event data was strictly available in internal memory of a vehicle's engine electronic control module (ECM). This 'ECM' dataset is related to engine and driveline function of the host vehicle.
Driver assistance and monitoring equipment has quickly penetrated the industry: most long haul carriers now employ one (or multiple) advanced driver assistance (ADAS) and/or monitoring, logging, and reporting (M-R) systems. These technologies offer additional host vehicle data streams such as audio video, GPS, vehicle acceleration and rotation rate, and metadata about an incident.
In addition, ADAS technologies may contain data relating to the target vehicle(s) or objects that are involved in the accident.
Data Correction
Forward and cab facing vehicle cameras, such as those by Lytx, Smartdrive, Omnitracs, and Peoplenet usually have large viewing angles and are subject to lens distortion (fish eye effect). In Cab Technology LLC has implemented data driven corrections to remove distortion from camera imagery for use image - point cloud overlays for accident reconstruction analyses.

Data Imaging
Significant data history can also be accessed via direct memory chip removal from the event recorder printed circuit board (PCB) via rework station. In Cab Technology has imaged eMMC chips from SmartDrive, Samsara, and Lytx.
